Online Vet Tech Schools
Online vet tech schools are becoming increasingly popular each year. So why are these online schools becoming so popular? The main reason is convenience. Many people already take online classes for other degree programs and many degree programs can be finished entirely online. You may be the type of person who could benefit from such a program. Right now there are a large number of individuals who want to transfer into the veterinary
field. Unfortunately many of these people can not afford to quit there current job to begin schooling in an entirely different field. Online vet tech schools allow these individuals to pursue a veterinary technician degree at their own convenience, without having to give up the income from their current job. Many of these online vet tech schools have class schedules that allow assignments to be completed over the course of a week. Plenty of time for someone with a busy schedule to do the necessary work that needs to be completed weekly. Usually the classes in online vet tech programs will also have plenty of group work that can be posted on a school forum. The forums can be very helpful in being able to understand the material and also share ideas and problems with the rest of the class. Tools like the forum provide a great opportunity to understand the material without having to make time to attend a class on a campus. Online vet tech schools also allow all of the material to be organized on one site making it extremely easy to follow all of the material.
So what are the downsides to taking an online vet tech program?
With every good, there must be a bad. Online vet tech schools and programs do have some downsides. Not everything can be positive. For one thing there is no physical teacher. So you must use email to get into contact with the professor. The response time could take hours to days, a long time if you are struggling with the material! There is nothing worse than not understanding something and then having to sit on the material for a long time before receiving the answer you need. There is also no “hands-on” with an online vet tech school. Many people learn much better with a hands-on approach. And there are many things that a vet tech does that can only be learned by doing the task repeatedly (like placing an IV catheter, for example). Taking an online vet tech program will probably require you to have more on-the-job training than someone who took the program at a physical college. You must also be sure that the online vet tech school you choose is accredited! I can not stress that enough, the online program must be accredited! Most, if not all states will not let you take the national veterinary technician exam if the degree you have is from a school that is not accredited. So once again, make sure the school you choose is accredited! Otherwise you might be wasting your time completely.
Overall there are many aspects to online vet tech schools that will be appealing to the majority of people. But you must also realize that there are some downsides that you must also consider before deciding on the path you take.
