Vet Tech Schools in Kansas



There are a variety of vet tech schools in Kansas to choose from. However, only the Colby Community College program has full accreditation at this point. The other four colleges with programs are currently the initial accreditation stage. Please read below for more information on the program at each individual school.

FULL ACCREDITATION

Colby Community College offers the only fully accredited veterinary technology program in Kansas. The program at Colby is also one of the oldest in the country, dating back to 1974. The Colby program offers an extensive amount of training on the latest veterinary diagnostic equipment, as well as hands on training for many different animals at their 105-acre facility. Colby also maintains a 60-acre facility off-campus.

The program at Colby requires 82 credit hours to graduate, requiring a number of prerequisite classes. The veterinary technology program provides classes that reach into every area of veterinary medicine. The degree requires that a passing average of a “C” grade be maintained to graduate. The program also offers a VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Exam) preparation course, which is a great addition for those who need to prepare for the examination.

Colby has recently also begun to offer a distance-education veterinary technology program which does not require in on-campus time, though they do offer hands on experience during each semester for those who want it.

The Brown Mackie College in Kansas City offers a 2-year associates of applied science in veterinary technology. One of the nice things about the program at Brown Mackie is that you can do their one-class a month program, where you only take one class per month, which can make it easier to learn the material.
